Coming This Spring to Public Television: Landmark Four-Hour Documentary Series “A World On The Brink” Explores Globalization and Instability
In today's fractured world - one that feels more dangerous, more threatening, and more unpredictable than ever - series host Dee Smith offers viewers insight into how we arrived at this unstable state, and what tomorrow might bring.
Real Vision Group and Grace Creek Media announce the broadcast debut of the 4-part geopolitical documentary series A World On The Brink. This up-to-the-minute series, hosted by intelligence and foreign policy expert Dee Smith, a permanent member of the Council on Foreign Relations, provides insights into how we arrived at today’s fractured world and what we can expect ahead.
“It increasingly feels like we are on the brink,” says Smith in his introduction to the four-part series. “But...on the brink of what?”
The documentary features commentary and insight from 19 leaders from around the world drawn from disciplines as diverse as foreign policy, diplomacy, the military, psychology, finance, engineering, theology, and history. Using high definition cinematography, the series travels the world to examine the rising threats we face and the reasons they are escalating. From globalization to anti-globalism, from cyber war to bio-threats, and from world order to social de-cohesion, A World On The Brink offers timely, multi-faceted views on the crises of our times. What is really going on? Why is it happening? And what we might do about it?
The series is produced and presented by Real Vision Group, in association with Grace Creek Media, producer of numerous public television documentaries, series and specials.
"Our world IS on the brink - economically, socially, and politically. Everything is changing fast, maybe too fast," says Real Vision Group CEO Raoul Pal. "With this cutting-edge series, PBS's discerning viewership will better understand why this is happening and how technology is accelerating the pace."
“The series provides an opportunity to look at the bigger picture and give more nuance than we usually get in our 30-second soundbite media reality,” said series host, Dee Smith. “I wanted to tease out some insight into why we are seeing such rising chaos in the world, because we can’t begin to find a solution until we better understand what is going on. And indeed, I think that my colleagues and I did.”
Over the four 60-minute episodes, Smith pieces together a matrix of information, along with commentary from expert contributors, including Admiral Patrick Walsh (ret.) former commander of the US Pacific Fleet, former CIA analyst HelimaCroft, Geordie Greig, Editor of The Daily Mail, former US Ambassadors James Glassman and Robert Jordan, and others.
Smith is the CEO of global private intelligence agency Strategic Insight Group. He has worked in more than 90 countries and has served as advisor for over $60 billion in investment transactions. He is a permanent member of the Council on Foreign Relations in New York; Vice Chairman of the Advisory Council of the Lozano Long Institute for Latin American Studies, University of Texas at Austin; a member of the Bretton Woods Committee in Washington D.C.; Immediate Past President of the Board of the Dallas Committee on Foreign Relations; and a member of the Advisory Board of the Houston Committee on Foreign Relations.
The series will be distributed to PBS stations by Executive Program Services.
